The northern Weinviertel offers beautiful nature and relax opportunities. The proximity to the Czech border, to the national park Thaya as well as the many wine cellars and the famous cellar alleys in the city itself provide a lot of variety. The Retzer inner city is characterized by striking architecture, in addition to the sgrafit house, the Verderberhaus, the Nalbertor and the Znaimertor, the town hall with its tower worth seeing, the Dominican monastery and in the south-east of the center the Gatterburg Castle are worth mentioning. The museum Retz houses the South Moravian Gallery. And after enjoying the art: Culinary highlights await you in the surrounding area at the wineries and sights such as the Retzer windmill, the only original mill of its kind in Austria.

For cycling fans, Retz is the ideal starting point for shorter or longer routes.
For most of them it is advisable to take a passport with you, the border to Czech Republic is close.
For example, you can be in Znaim by bike in just under 1 hour and 15 minutes.
For those who are more drawn to nature should consider the Flora & Fauna Tour.
It runs along the Kamp-Thaya-March route from Retz to Hardegg to the Thayatal National Park.
An alternative is the trendy gravel bike tour in the national park. Long-distance specialists should take a closer look at the Iron Curtain Trail, which offers almost 3,000 meters in altitude over 400 kilometers. The tour along the route of the Reblaus Express is more leisurely, and it will also be happy to take you and your bike with you at the weekend if the tour is a little longer.

Retz is a popular starting point for small and large hikes. Whether it's the cozy Kellergassen hiking trail, the cross-border divining rod trail or stages of the KMH pilgrimage route - the area is hikeable and wonderful.
With the Northwest Railway you can also be chauffeured from A to B without going a full lap. On weekends from the end of April to the beginning of November, the nostalgic Reblaus Express, which proudly sees itself as the “most beautiful connection between the Weinviertel and the Waldviertel”, is running.
